
With the potential of weather coming in, Anderson County Emergency Management would like to let everybody to know where the storm shelters are.
In Greeley the concrete storm shelter is located just west of the fire station, which is located at 114 Mary Street, and it’s unlocked.
Garnett has a concrete storm shelter unlocked behind Brummels at Ninth and Oak. If a warning comes out, the First Unired Methodist Church at Second and Oak Will open up.
In Harris it is located right beside the fire station at NW. 2nd St. and Northwest Spruce
In Westphalia there is one located beside the fire station at Lincoln and a Warren Street. There is a secondary one located at Fourth and Liberty near the school.
In Welda there is one located east of the fire station on 1000 Road near the intersection of 1000 and Kauble.
Colony has one at the fire station. You will enter the fire station on the north east corner door.
Kincaid has a shelter on the south side of the highway in the park near the MFA gas pumps at 31 and Preston, and also one behind the post office , west of First and Commercial.

Please do not blow your grass clippings into the street when mowing. When it rains, that gets washed into drainage pipes, clogging them. It is also a safety hazard for cyclists, walkers, and motorcycles, and you can be fined for this. Grass should not exceed 8" in height.

The City of Garnett will begin sewer line replacement on Monday, April 6, 2026, on Oak Street from Park Road to the automotive School. The road will be closed while the line replacement is being done. Please use alternate routes, as this project will take most of the week. Harvesters Emergency Food Distribution will take place TODAY at 2 p.m. at the Quonset Hut at the Anderson County Fairgrounds. It is held each month on the FOURTH THURSDAY. Volunteers are always welcome to help with the distribution.

95% of the town has electricity. The Methodist Church and the Garnett Recreation are closed for the night. Crews will work until sundown, then resume repairs at 7 a.m.
